Learn To Dance Under the Rotunda this Fall

Local dance enthusiasts to offer free dance lessons and dances in Plattsburgh's historic City Hall Rotunda

Plattsburgh, New York, September 11, 2017: Local social dance enthusiasts affiliated with the Green Mountain Chapter #3033 of USA Dance, Inc., are offering the public three evenings of dance lessons and open dancing this fall. Held under the historic Plattsburgh City Hall Rotunda, these free events welcome beginners and experienced dancers alike, and promise to attract a wide variety of individuals and groups. “Social dancing is a fun and healthy way to spend a night on the town, get some exercise, listen to music, socialize, see old friends and make new friends,” explained event organizer and Plattsburgh resident Paul Fuhrmeister.

Each evening event will begin at 5:30 pm with two optional one-hour dance lessons intended to prepare new dancers to hit the floor when open social dancing begins at 7:30 pm. The first event on September 23rd will feature free East Coast Swing and Waltz lessons.

The schedule of Saturday evening events is as follows:

• October 14

• November 11

Lessons begin at 5:30 pm, open dancing follows from 7:30 – 10:00 pm. Dancers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

After lessons, the social dances will feature Swing, Latin and traditional Ballroom dancing to recorded music in an informal, relaxed North Country atmosphere. Although this is "partner" dancing, it is not necessary to bring a partner. Single dancers are welcome, as there will be dancers of all ages and abilities available for partnering. “Besides fun and exercise, dancing is an easy way to meet new people,” added Fuhrmeister, “Many friendships and relationships are formed in dance classes, which are generally warm and welcoming of new and experienced dancers alike.”

All are welcome to dance on the magnificent wooden dance floor in Plattsburgh's historic Rotunda Ballroom. For local residents who have never seen the gorgeous 1917 Art Deco ballroom on the second floor of Plattsburgh's City Hall building, this is an excellent opportunity to experience one of Plattsburgh’s jewels.

Dance Plattsburgh is affiliated with USA Dance, Inc., Green Mountain Vermont Chapter 3033. USA Dance, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization providing dance education and opportunities in local communities by organizing affordable dances, dance lessons and workshops.
